Nebraska Resources on Physical Restraint & Seclusion
Legislative Bill 595 was introduced on January 18, 2017. The bill provides for the use of physical force or physical restraint or removal from a class in response to student behavior under the Student Discipine Act. The bill was ammended and advanced by the Education Committee. A link to the revised bill is not available at this time.
The Nebraska Legislature requested an Interim Study of Physical Restraint and Seclusion in Nebraska Schools (Interim Study Resolution LR 334). Nebraska Technical Assistance Document. The Nebraska Department of Education commissioned a technical assistance document to assist school districts in developing policies and procedures for the use of physical restraint and seclusion as required for school accreditation. Nebraska Rule 10 accreditation requirement for policies. Nebraska Rule 10 (school accreditation) requires under Section 11 (School Environment) that "Each school system has a seclusion and restraints policy approved by the school board or local governing body." (011.01E)
