Following the demise of corporal punishment in schools, some educators expressed concern that there would be a dramatic increase in the number of suspensions and expulsions. While this was not immediately the case, zero tolerance policies, which assign suspensions and expulsions for a wide array of behaviors regardless of the individual circumstances, have been linked to increased rates of suspension and expulsion.
